Jesus, the Big Deal Part 1
"The Revelation of Jesus Christ", Revelation 1:1.
What's the big deal about Jesus? Why is it that Christians are always making such a big deal about Him? Good Questions,
aren't they? I think so. In fact, the whole book of Revelation centers in Christ, His work in Heaven, God giving Him the
kingdom He died for, His second coming to gather the saints, the marriage supper of the Lamb, the destruction of the wicked,
Satan, and his angels, and the restoration of planet Earth to its original beauty.
In order to understand the importance of Christ in our lives it is necessary to understand our origins, purpose for
existence, and what happened as a result of our deviation from that plan. Therefore, we will turn to the first book of
the Bible. "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the
fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and
female created he them", Genesis 1:26, 27.
Being created in the image of God meant, among other things, that we bore the impress of the divine character. We were
created perfect in all our ways just as Lucifer was. Adam and Eve had no tendencies toward evil. Their thoughts were not
crowded with ambitious plans of self exaltation and pride. Rather their focus was how they could serve their Creator and
one another. They wore a covering of light which represented the holy character of the Lord. They communed face to face
with God and holy angels. Their life was not spent in idleness. God had provided employment for them in caring for the
garden.
If we could step back in time and see man in the garden before the fall, we would probably hear songs of joy and gladness
resounding through the beautiful landscape. We would see Adam fashioning the shrubbery much the same way we do today while
Eve was near by arranging flowers & plants into baskets & wreaths. There was plenty to do, yet there were no time
constraints.
Sadly, their peace and happiness was swept away one day when Adam and Eve put inclination above the one rule that Jehovah
had given them. After they had eaten from the fruit, they realized that the covering God had given them had disappeared.
Shame swept over them and they tried to cover themselves with fig leaves. Then they heard the voice of God calling out for
them. Because the result of sin is separation from God, their love for Him was replaced with fear and they hid from His
presence.
It was to restore this relationship between man and our Creator that Christ came to this world to die. Jesus wants nothing
more than to transform us and replace our fallen nature with a transcript of the character of God once more. However, God's
government is built on the principle of freedom. He has given to each of us the ability to choose our master. Therefore it
is up to you and I to invite Christ into our lives that He may renew our hearts. Will you invite Christ to be your Lord and
Savior?
