Watering His Garden
Listen to Watering His Garden
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if everyone got along? What would it be like if there were no more arguments or complaints? It would almost be weird. Imagine, an environment where there would be no cursing, no violence, no crime, and no vandalism! Will it ever happen? How many people out there would be bold enough to say, "Yes, I do believe that there is a place where none of these things exist." Many would call this person crazy, insane, or even stupid. But it's true. There is a place where there is no envy, jealousy, or hatred. There is a place where even "the wolf and the lamb will feed together." Even "the lion," the king of the jungle, "will eat straw" like oxen do, Isaiah 65:25. Where is this place? In Heaven. But do we have to wait until we get to Heaven to enjoy a little less hostility amongst each other? Have you ever noticed what happens to grass when there isn't enough rain? You can't take a step without the grass going, "CRUNCH, CRUNCH!" It becomes brittle and noisy. But, when the rain falls, how soft and quiet the grass becomes, doesn't it? All to often, it seems like the only type of people we run into all day are the ones who haven't gotten enough moisture lately. They "crunch" at everyone and anyone that "steps" into their path whether at the office or in their own homes. Of course, you and I never dry out, or do we? Deuteronomy 32: 1-3 tells us, "Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distill as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God." If we will only take the time to listen to that still, soft voice, the promise is "I will speak." God asks us to listen to "the words of my mouth." As we listen, "His doctrine" will water us. Notice, even when God speaks to us, He speaks to each of us only as we can handle it. "As the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass." God will not hit the beautiful tulip with a hurricane for it can only withstand a mist, nor will God only give dew to the great oak tree, for it needs much more moisture than that. We can experience a taste of Heaven on earth just now. All we have to do is take time to listen to that still, soft voice. Let us come to the waters of life that we might receive showers of blessing. Then, instead of crunching like the rest of the world, we can spread the rain drops of God's love to others who so desperately need a tender mist. Written by Jason P Knarr |
