The Prayer of Jabez, Part 7
". . . So God granted him what he requested", 1 Chronicles 4:10. "Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, 'Because I bore him in pain.' And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, 'Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!' So God granted him what he requested", 1 Chronicles 4:9,10. As we have taken this journey back into Old Testament times and explored this powerful prayer, I have been deeply impressed with one point above all others. The Bible says that "Jabez was more honorable than is brothers". The reason this point impresses me so is because my greatest desire is to bring honor to my God. As I contemplate the sacrifice and love poured out upon this sin polluted planet, my heart is filled with awe, wonder, gratitude, thanksgiving, as well as a love so deep that I long to glorify my Creator and Redeemer in every way I can. The deeper I drink of the word of God, the greater my desire becomes to live as Christ lived. To me, it isn't about what I can get from God. It's about reflecting His image. It is about magnifying His Law before others and making that Law, the written character of God, honorable before all men. Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commandments". "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him", John 14:15,21.
As we have looked into this powerful prayer, we have discussed some of those qualities that make men great in the eyes of the Lord. God is seeking to implant these qualities in the heart of every believer. He longs to see us exercising faith as we claim His blessings. He eagerly awaits every opportunity to dispatch the heavenly hosts on their errands of mercy as we claim ground and precious souls for Him. As we acknowledge our need of Christ and His strength, the Father is pleased to see us cling to Christ, recognizing our victories come " 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the Lord of hosts", Zechariah 4:6. Angels of Heaven rejoice whenever we gain victories over sin through the blood of the Lamb. My prayer is that is series has been as great a blessing to you as it has been to me. May God abundantly bless you more than you could ever think to ask. Written by Jason P Knarr |
